Silver Linings (58) The New Covid Music

Sent to me by Rick, this little clip of Somi is so uplifting!

“Somi’s songs gracefully fuse African-tinged grooves, supple jazz singing and compassionate social consciousness; they’re both serious and seductive.”  -The New York Times

The Baryshnikov Arts Center has been offering a weekly video series of performances from their archives including this one from 2016. You can see the whole performance here until Tuesday, May 19.

Born in Illinois to immigrant parents from Rwanda and Uganda, Somi draws inspiration from her multicultural background to create a lush Afro-beat and unique style of melodic storytelling.

And The Greene Space has been live streaming some excellent music to work by, or at least I have been tuning in to give myself a break from all the exhausting and endless Zoom meetings…

Today at 4pm tune into organist Cameron Carpenter, mezzo-soprana J’Nai Bridges, pianist Alessio Bax playing works by Beethoven and Battle of the Boroughs winners Charanams.
